Comprehensive Treatment and Rehabilitation with Zirconia Crowns and Bridges

Comprehensive periodontal, endodontic and restorative treatment, followed by prosthetic rehabilitation with zirconia-based crowns and bridges veneered with layered ceramic, incorporating additional supragingival glass supports.

Initial Condition

A 41-year-old patient sought comprehensive dental treatment and a new smile. Assessment identified periodontitis, hypertrophic gingivitis, caries, fractured roots and old tooth build-ups, crowns and bridges that hindered cleaning and retained food and dental plaque.

The remaining natural teeth were in the anterior region. The patient did not wish to have implants placed in the jawbone.

Treatment Provided

Comprehensive treatment included periodontal therapy, caries and root canal treatment, and restoration and build-up of all remaining teeth. The old crowns and bridges were removed, and non-restorable roots were extracted.

Following periodontal and endodontic stabilisation, prosthetic rehabilitation was completed with zirconia-based crowns and bridges veneered with layered ceramic. The prosthesis used the remaining natural anterior teeth and additional supragingival glass supports in the first-molar regions.

The additional supragingival glass supports were incorporated into the individual prosthetic plan with the aim of achieving a more favourable distribution of chewing and occlusal forces and reducing the load on the natural abutment teeth. The selected approach respected the patient’s wish to avoid implants placed in the jawbone and a removable denture.

Result

The photographs show the initial condition, the prosthetic construction and the smile following comprehensive treatment.

The outcome is individual and does not guarantee the same result for another patient.
